Postcard showing a view in Whelley. Looks like it is just past the MOUNT on the border between Whelley and New Springs?

Dr Simmons had a surgery here for a long time.

I remember Dr Simmons very well when I was a little boy. Whatever was wrong with me the remedy always seemed to be a bottle of pink medicine. I seem to recall his partner was Dr Holder ?

My uncle Jack Smith (proper name Alfred ) used to live next to the chapel but it was not a shop in the 1950s to get to the back door (we always went round the back ) you had to go in the street at the side and into a communial yard the WCs were all next to one another at the bottom of the yard he died in the early 70s and later were the houses demolished.

The other thing I just remembered about this photograph was that I seem to recall going to a junior dance in the hall when I was about 10 (1962/3) and a local group played I think calling themselves the Buccaneers. First time I had ever sen or heard an electric guitar being played. Anybody know anthing about them ?

My grandparents lived in a house before the Alexandra Pub. Are there any photographs of the houses? I remember they were terraced and had cellars that opened onto open ground outside.

I was searching for an olden day picture of Bath Street in Whelley and came across this. Thanks for posting. My great grandparents, my nan, her siblings and my mum all lived in Bath Street back from around the thirties through to I think the seventies. Bath street is the side street in the middle of the picture, and the GP surgery is the big building on the right. Yes it once was Dr Oldfield's. That building still looks the same today.
