I lived in the Crispin when I took this photo aged 13, in 1955, which I clearly remember, during the re-building work. Sixty years on the bottom photo shows the same view from Birkett Street.
If, at the time, I'd been able to "go back" an equal number of years it would take us back to 1890 when the original Crispin was probably just about 10 years old.
Despite the significant re-building work my parents never closed the business and served customers in the remnant that was left before they moved into the part you can see above. It was then that the rest was demolished and re-built to add to what had been completed.

Maths - never my strong point - I should have said 1895 when the Crispin was probably 15 to 20 years old.

Then they moved to Beech Hill.
