The pub on the right was called the stanley arms, where the lady with the pram is was the royal george lodging houseqc

Remember the Stanley well, a watering hole on the way home from town sometimes.

The Bedford CA looks as if it's C-regd. - which would make it 1965. We went on our honeymoon in one of those, in 1969. Then I used to drive it round London when I was a student there - taxi drivers didn't like getting within kicking distance of the slide-back doors!

My wife who lived locally, remembers the lane, by the side of the pub, went down to the River Douglas.

The lane at the side of the Stanley was locally known as the AMY LANE, But the street sign looks like it says FRANKFURT STREET?

Ron - shown as Frankfort St, on the street indexes on this site. The junction was at the corner with 21 Warrington Lane.

Is this where-a-bouts the Waterwheel pub is now, the old Ford Pop would be turning out of Hardybutts?

I have tried to remember, but can't. What was on the opposite corner from the Chinese laundry, before the rock gardens were put there, where the telephone box was situated?

Albert, if you mean looking towards Scholes crossing from the pub in this shot there was a telephone box on that corner but, for as long as I can remember, it was always a grassy open space with no buildings on it until just short of the railway bridge going into Central Station.

I think the AMY LANE was further along towards Scholes crossing, it ran through the middle of what we used to call Scholes Park.

teddy ,your correct the Amy Lane was further along ,but it ran at the side of Scholes Park ,the park if you remember was completely sealed with railings , Regards,Tom.

You are right tuddy amy lane was a bit furtherdown I remember when we were kids it used to freeze up & we would slide down on lumps of cardboard, you had to have someone at the bottom telling you it was safe as you would end up in the middle of the road

i was born in garden st,the first street on the right after the stanley arms towards darlington st.toppings shop on the corner,i would love to see a photo of it but its unlikely

I can remember there being a cobblers shop on the corner underneath the two Bill Boards, in the early 1950's.

The building to the left of the Stanley Arms was offices known as H. & A. Nicholson No. 75 Warrington Lane. They were hospital suppliers and wholesalers. The warehouse belonging to it was at the rear, the entrance was down between the pub and the offices. It was demolished to make way for the flats and Waterwheel.

The Royal George used to be on the corner nera where the lady is standing.
