Good photo Frank, great to see the Whelley loop and rabbit rocks...and of course the black five.
Dont you mean LMS Frank.
It's a Mogul, not a black five.
So it is Jarvo, both are Stanier, but the black 5s a 4-6-0.
Actually, Frank is right. All though an original LMS class engine, by the early fifties, the LMS didn't exist. And indeed, the engine was allocated to the London Midland Region.
IT IS LMS, lONDON MIDLAND AND SCOTISH
It ISN'T...The number is a British Railways one: post 1948, when the LMS failed to exist. The LMS number would have been 2960. All Stanier, Fowler and Fairburn engines were given a '4' before the original number after nationalisation.
42960 in late 1940's to early 1950's was at crewe south mpd which wqs the freight shed, its last shed being heaton Mersey in 1965 before withdrawl in jan 1966.though springs branch had a few of these.
gam they're not Crewe men working this train, frickened death of the infamous Whelley line
