It WAS Cuerdens shop at one time, i bought Mr Cuerdens house in Miles Lane. Later on the shop was owned by Derek Taylor who now has the fisheries up The Nook.

The woman who used to serve in Aspinall's shop in the 50's, whose name I think was Martha, also owned the wooden chippy across the road, almost opposite the Plough and Harrow. She would work for Aspinalls during the day and open the chippy at night. I think those chips cppked in lard and with a coal fired range were the best ever. Later on Hurcombes opened another chippy in the new parade further down Gathurst Lane. Competition had arrived!

In the 40s and 50s, the shop was owned by Arthur Aspinall and his wife Lizzie. She was a teacher at Shevington school in Miles Lane in the early 1900s.It was later taken over by Billy Cuerden and his wife Molly, who was the daughter of Arthur and LIzzie.
