It is a somewhat, idyllic view.

You can see the disused Whelley loop line, closed in the 70s. Some brick-work remains the carried the steel girder bridge over the canal.
Good photo Terry.

Hi Terry,

I wondered whether you would allow Lancashire Wildlife Trust to use this photo to put on a board at Kirkless as part of a permanent history trail? Please get in touch! lizvango@hotmail.com

This view does not show Kirkless Iron Works.
You are facing the wrong direction.
This is looking from the higher end of the "Rabbit Rocks".
The "Rabbit Rocks" were created from the slag from the Iron works.
The canal is to the right and an iron bridge carried the Whelley Loop Line along the south side of the "Rabbit Rocks".
This view is looking towards Rose Bridge.
Ince Hall would be below to the left.
The now demolished coolong towers in the distance are at the Westwood Power Station.
To see the Iron Works you had better turn around, they were behind you.
You weren`t by any chance the German Navigator of the Zeppelin that tried to bomb the Iron Works in World War I are you ? (Only joking).I used to play all over there when I was a little boy and that was about 45 to 50 years ago.
Went up ther today in fact (25/10/2014).

Please could I use this photo as reference for a drawing? I am teaching myself to be an artist and I'm always looking for new material to study. I think this view is stunning, its a very idyllic view of a subject that is taught to be quite grim and I want to try to make a nice painting out of it. Please get back to me as this is something I feel very strongly about as my dad was on strike from here as I was born.
