A grimy black 8 heads northbound through Wigan North West Station with a train of coal empties. I spent many hours trainspotting by that small brick wall at the southern end of the platform in the mid to late 60s.

What was the snow plough doing on the front I ask myself, In bad weather in those days, you just ploughed on (forgive the pun)today, the job can be stopped for leaves on the track, we just blew them away, It took a lot to stop the railways running in those days.

The Brick Wall looks as if it is a bridge parapet.

Would this have been left over from the original Chapel Lane Bridge, being left as an isolated wall, when more roads were added , following the enlargement of the original Victorian Station?

I wonder if Tommy Dean was driving this?
