Where is it? Clue, something has been removed before the photograph was taken, but the place it stood can still be seen.
looks like mesnes park!!!!!
Hindley Hall. But that's a pure guess
Hindley Green Hall, used to be on Leigh Road.
the building behind looks like the cafe in mesnes park
Hindley Green Hall, I think. Can I just add a Merry Christmas to Dennis and family, and to all of you on Wigan World Album.
was it some kind of hospital or sanitorium in hindley,
is it in ince somewhere near park, think some kind of medical place.
I made a bit of a mistake here, I said something had been removed... but if you look really closely, it is in fact still there.
Ahh.. I see it has been answered... well done Mick and Irene. It is indeed Hindley Green Hall, situated where the PPG Glass Fiber Works is now.
The house well well known for having a statue of a women in the garden, and at first I thought this had been removed, but on closer inspection it is still there on its plinth.
Where is PPG Glass?
I had no idea were it was, but if it was anything to do with Wigan Council, no doubt it was left to fall into disrepair rather than sell it on. Of course it would then be demolished at the rate payers expense, or renovated at enormous cost. Mesnes Park Lodge, the Park Cafe, the Gate Lodge on Basin Lane and the former Green houses, both in Haigh Hall for example.
You can see quite clearly Hindley Hall had an extension to the right of the building.
PPG Glass was/is behind the old Turner Brother Asbestos site on Leigh Road. TBA Glass Fibre Division was sold to PPG, and the built a new factory on the site. I *think* the access road to it is where the hall used to stand.

You can copy and paste the above link into your browser. Hindley Green Hall is top centre on the map. The area to the lower left of it marked with a 237 10-873 is where TBA was later built.
Thanks for the info Dennis. The house must have belonged to a wealthy family. Looks very sturdy and well built, love to have had a look around inside. Shame it's no longer there.
turner bros former factory is round the corner and is owned by someone else(who deal with electrical stuff)
Used to belong to a coalowner I think.
It was the home of the Diggle family, John Diggle began as a grocer in Bury, and eventually ended up as a colliery owner of pits in West Leigh.
