No description, that is down to you.

It is within the current Wigan Metropolitan area... but NOT in Wigan.

Where is this? Try not to Google, the clues are there... I could have blanked out the name of the building, but that IS the clue.

*Note* If Brian or any other WW admin is unhappy with this kind of quiz photograph in WW Albums, I fully understand if it is refused.

Great Photo Dennis but not a clue where it is I knew every single one of the Cinemas in Higher Ince though !!

Comment by: Albert E Short. on 18th December 2011 at 11:06

Quite a bit more stylist than the old Empire Cinema. That cinema was in a narrow street, off the Market Place, Central Wigan. Last film I saw there was " King Kong"( The old version)

Comment by: Jimmy on 18th December 2011 at 11:59

is it Platt Bridge ?

Comment by: Cyril on 18th December 2011 at 12:20

No idea where it is, but I'll have a guess that it is now the Monaco at Hindley.

Comment by: Eddie7457 on 18th December 2011 at 12:36

Is it the Monaco ballroom?

Comment by: josie on 18th December 2011 at 13:11

dennis, it looks like where the bethnell green comunity centre in hindley green is ?

Comment by: josie on 18th December 2011 at 13:17

on second thoughts seeing the other comments i too think its the monaco.

Comment by: Jimmy on 18th December 2011 at 13:28

My first thought was the Monaco, then I thought it was the place in Platt Bridge that became Thompsons, then Target.

Comment by: spud on 18th December 2011 at 14:13

The Monoco used to be the Rex,not the Empire

Comment by: betty on 18th December 2011 at 14:19

Comment by: alan lad on 18th December 2011 at 15:34

Comment by: StuartP on 18th December 2011 at 16:04

No not Monoc' roof doesn't like right, lower part looks like the Bethel at Hindley Green, but was this a cinema before a church? Is this Pemberton Cinema?

Comment by: Betty on 18th December 2011 at 17:14

Comment by: jimmyn on 18th December 2011 at 18:13

Comment by: Garry on 18th December 2011 at 19:02

Comment by: Jimmy on 18th December 2011 at 19:32

No it's not Garry, unit 4 was the Carlton.

Comment by: Ged on 18th December 2011 at 22:09

Could be Billinge

Comment by: spud on 18th December 2011 at 23:22

The Gate I meant was Bradshawgate Leigh,I know there was an Empire there, but I don't recall it being the New Empire ,but it could have been years before my time.

Comment by: Dennis Miller on 19th December 2011 at 06:16

Betty got it right, it was in Bradshawgate, Leigh.

Comment by: Dennis on 19th December 2011 at 08:37

Spud, I missed your 'Gate' ref... you got it right as well, you share the honours with Betty.

Comment by: spud on 19th December 2011 at 10:51

I lived in Leigh from 1948 to 1958,there were seven cinema's then, and Leigh was a great place to live in those day's,the Empire is now an Iceland.

Comment by: Stuart Naylor on 19th December 2011 at 13:50

The way you worded this Dennis, suggested to me that the building still existed, which apparently is not the case.
