Me and my Dad "borrowed" the wooden cellar steps from this pub during the demolition, and installed them in my cellar at Charles Street. I wonder if they are still there?
my great great g father Robert Leyland was licensee at that pub in 1860s, I think. can't find much about him though.
This is complicated...My granmother's forth husband Richard Boardman was born here, and appeared in the 1881 cencus aged 2yrs old, the son of Richard and Sarah Boardman...Any information on the Boardman family would be welcome...email supplied..Many Thanks
My father Harold Parkinson was the landlord at the White Horse in the 60s.I got married in 1965 from there.
the Whitehorse belonged to my great grandfather David Bell ! So thrilled to find this pic and comments !

Article that chronicles the formation of the Wigan Football team at Standishgate. Headquartered at the White Horse circa 1899
Interesting that the first game being played against Dumfries, the birthplace of David Bell.
Also notable that Mr Bell died at the early age of 39 years from pneumonia, which anecdotally his wife attributed to him playing football in the rain.
