about fifty faces of the bowling club situated at the back of the conservative club in whelley.was this called great acre ? think it was taken late 50,s.george lowery on photo 090 front row 1st from right and the other 091 back row 2 nd from right
Yes it is Great Acre, My uncle (really my dad's cousin) Jimmy Finney is on the back row in the middle!

This photo poses a few questions.They are on a bowling green and there are bowls.But this must be an occasion of some sort.50 playing bowls at once, no ? and all smartly dressed,47/48 with collar and ties, and 1 flat cap, They did,nt dress up to play bowls, Or did they in those days ??

It wasn't uncommon for men to dress in smart clothing for bowling. Humphrey Spender's photographs of bowling in Bolton in the late 1930s, taken for Mass Observation, show this.
