What a great picture, brings back many happy memories.

I remember buying 1d bangers from one of the shops on the left.

There can't be many people over 50 who don't miss the old arcade.

To Ron Hunt, The shop opposite had a larger selection kept under glass.

As a child, I fondly remember my mum taking me into Gorner's cafe, every Thursday, shopping day. I recall red and white check table cloths in there and it was always a special treat. The arcade had much more character back then. The sixties was a wonderful time!

No one was that poor they couldn't afford a cup of tea in Gorners, or the 'Baked Potato''!!!!!

I appreciate that Jimmy, though I was referring to the 'wonderful sixties' from a child's perspective. Also I agree with Harry regarding the tea and baked potato.

Tha' could get a cup a tea anywhere!!!! What's thts mon on about? We all lived in Wilson's government; non stop 'Strikes'

Yes I agree with Sheila and Harry, times were hard for the majority, but a cup of tea as a treat wouldn`t break the bank! Bet a cuppa was much cheaper then in comparison to nowadays and still the cafe`s always seem to be busy whether a recession or not. Nice of you Sheila to be so observant and remember those check table cloths!

Thanks Nadine! My parents were far from well off and worked hard for their money. They did however spend wisely and in moderation; hence a 'Gorners' type treat now and then.

Used to buy my stockings (I think they were 2s 6d a pair) from a stall on the right as you walk down but can't remember the name of the stall.
