i always knew it as the old arcade you learn something new everyday
The hours I spent here buying American comics as a kid, so much choice and so little money!
I agree. I used to buy American comics too, sometimes off Hindley Market. These places had individuality and character. Wigan may as well be any town now.....they all tend to look the same these days. The old arcade was a delight.
us young lads used to walk past Mr.Smiths slow enough to have a gander at the cover page of Spick and Span!
Remember the toy stall and another stall that sold religious medals, rosaries and similar stuff.
You're right daveb. I always knew it as the old arcade. Remember the man at the bottom with the scales? He always used to shout "try your weight now friends"
Nobody ever called it anything but the "old" arcade, When I found out the real name was Market Arcade a few years ago I was surprised.
