I was born in 1930 in Platt Bridge. I,with my parents moved to Surrey in 1933.We had lived in Walthew Lane, when we heard that Moss Hall chimney was to be demolished. My family watched from our back gate, but they got fed up with waiting and went in.I stayed at the gate and was the only one to see the smoke and dust as the chimney fell. This is one of my earliest recollections,as I was only two years old.

My 1st cousin, 2x removed, was a clerk at a colliery somewhere here. On the 1911 census, the family lived at 196 Walthew Lane Platt Bridge at that time. Both James and William Parkinson were clerks (colliery) and their brother Joseph was a clerk on the LNW? Railway.
