JUST GOING IN TO NORTH WEST AT WIGAN
Could be anywhere, these lines could now have been lifted.
Leaving st helens, heading for wigan.
looks like Ravenhead Junction, loco heading towards Bibbys Sdgs part of Pilkingtons Glass used for deliveries of oil
john is right its at sutton manor and the lines are no longer there so is dave lewis your right as well i took the photo back in the 80s when i worked on the per way
could it be ince moss
Sutton Manor was at the end of a single line from Sutton Oak Junction part of the former line to Widnes the box was of wooden construction. The box in the photo is at Ravenhead Junction it was last used to control access to Bibbys Sidings,Ravenhead sand sidings and the single line to Leathers Chemicals after the closure of the route through to St Helens Junction in the1980,s.The box was taken out of use during the building of a new dual carriageway,a new line was built from the St Helens to Huyton line to serve Bibbys which still sees use for oil trains.
Why is this on "WIGAN" World ?
i live in wigan frank thats why
Franks is saying This photograph has nothing to do with Wigan. This is a site for WIGAN related pictures and articles.
Wigan played an important part in the railways in the northwest, where railway are/was Wigan will always have a connection.
I've got all the leavers from that box fully assembled in my back bedroom, I use them to turn the points in my back garden. That reminds me I've got to change a broken slide chair on them.
Note for Dave Tomlinson - you can't leave us all hanging like that... what exactly do you have in your garden which can be remotely operated from your house? Any pics?
Rev,
I think you have just become a victim of Railway humour.
Rev, I think Dave's only kidding......
Oh, that's sad. I thought he might have a fantastic model railway in his garden, with points operated by real levers from the old signal box. Some people are strange that way.
