1855-57 a New Union Workhouse was erected on the Frog Lane Site.It was designed by William Mangnall, constructed of Red Brick and could house 574 inmates.

Have you any information about William Mangnall, such as his place of birth ect. I am searching for Magnall/Mangnall ancestors. Many thanks for this post.

William Magnall formed a partnership c1846 with Henry Travis to form Travis and Mangnall which was based at 3 Norfolk Street , Manchester 1846 to 1855.The 1861 census shows him living at Clark's Hill in Prestwich, with his wife Anne and seven children. William died 29th May,1868, aged 46 at Lord Street in Southport in the presence of his son William Mangnall (1850-1917). He died of "Phthisis 2 years,Pneumothorae 5 years,Pleuritis certified" William Mangnall married Anne (nee Royle)(1819-1907) in 1847 at St Philips Church in Salford.

William Mangnall, Architect, born c. 1822 at Prestwich, still living in Prestwich on 1861 Census.
