Known locally as the "Longneck" - does anyone know why?
I can vividly remember my grandmother, in the late 1930s and early 1940s, regularly using the pub as an off-licence and bringing home a jug of ale. Prior to drinking the ale, she mulled it by means of a poker, heated in the open fire. It was a special treat for me and my brother and sister to be allowed one - but only one - eggcup full of ale.

I WAS BROUGHT UP ACROSS THE ROAD IN A ROW OF SIX HOUSES SITUATED BEHIND THE GARDEN WALL OF ST. WILLIAMS PRESBYTERY.

I lived round the corner in Leaway and went on many a happy fishing trip with the Longneck fishing club in the early sixties.
I think its called the longneck because a former landlord hung himself in the pub.

I was told that the name longneck came from the original name of the pub was THE SWAN but I could be wrong about that
