I can see now why my dad called the Walmesley arms The White House, during the depression in the 20s he used to collect a free pie from Mortons through a window around the side street

Mt parents were born in1924 and 1928,they always called the pub the White House.Because we had a large extended family, mum used to have the upstairs room there for Walking day teas,as our house wasn't big enough to seat everybody.Walking days were a big occasion when I was growing up and the family and neighbours always treated us.We did our bit for the church by having 'prick cards',every time you got a penny you had to prick a hole in the card, till it was full, then take the money to Arthur Bailey at church.Happy days.

I will tell you a true story about the White house, in the 60s a group of us were coming out of the white un, when a taxi pulled up, the driver asked if we could direct him to the walmesley, so we sent him down spring view, to the other walmesley, never thinking that the white un was also the walmesley, we didnt half get a mouthful off the chap waiting behind us for that taxi, true story that one

My great grandparents William & Ann Clucas ran The Walmesley Arms through the 1920/30's. I'd like to find out more about
them and The White House if anyone has more to share.
