Great photo Alan! Never pictured it like this. Thanx
Does anyone have any idea of why these people were lined up like this or who they were?
The old photographers would try a get a crowd of people in the picture this way they had a better chance of selling more photos as postcards.
Between the Cross Keys and the last house was Dawber Street, the place of my birth in 1948
Allan that is a fantastic photo. I have a 1906 map that confirms all the comments.. I am just starting to compile a book on the full history of Stubshaw cross and I would love to include this photo in a past and present section. Do you have any more of Stubshie? contact me by e-mail if you can help and we should be able to identify all the inhabitants from the censuses....
I used to live in Edge Green Street, firstly at Number 11, then down at Number 40. I've posted a couple of photos on the Edge Green Street section of Street Scenes. Maybe you remember, John, me, you and Jim Winstanley used to play together, I think mit was your dad who Christened me Bongo from the Congo! Bongo stuck for years. We are talking around the years 1950 to 1957-the year we all got moved on to make the streets ready for demolition.
I have got a photo of the pigeon men outside the cross keys.My uncle peter and grandfather joe beck don,t no when it was taken must have been late 30s or 40s
