Another gem Jimmy, keep 'em coming.
Two houses in the terraced row in Harper Street (between Darlington Street East and St Pat's ground) were wrecked in this raid, and later rebuilt. They can still be identified by the colouration of the brickwork etc.
It was Mr.& Mrs.Tomlinson who were killed in Harper street,Mr.Tomlinson was a gas inspector, they were both blown out of their bed and killed instantly they landed in a clay pit in front of the houses. This raid was on Friday the 12th of April just before midnight 1918,a total of 27 bombs fell that night in Lower Ince,Hardybutts,Scholes,Platt Lane,Whelley and New Springs.
What a fantastic photograph and what a sad event.
My grandma used to live on Darlington St. East just at the back of those houses, great pic.
