My neighbour tells me that she lived opposite this place and her mam made her sweep it out every Sunday morning. Lol
This was built for the Miners from Garswood Hall, the road up to the colliery was directly opposite this.You can also see the new houses and Bungalows being built which became Roman road and Nicol Mere.If your neighbor lived opposite, she must have lived in "25 Row"
We lived just off of Bryn Road South and went to Nicol Mere school when it first opened in 76 - and I remember that bus shelter vividly. Everytime we drove past it there were a few less bricks!
I was told it was something to do with the pit Nyce horse but what for? Was it just a shelter?
My neighbour did live in the 25 row her name was Lowe.
Yes, Karen, it was a Bus shelter for the miners,Wigan Corp' laid buses on for them before Bryn road was on the regular route.
anyone remember the hiltons who lived in the 25row, mum & dad were maggie & jeff,they had one son jeff, & two daughters vera & margaret
yes i remember mrs hilton and jeff,we lived next door to them for years.Mum and dad moved to Cleveleys,i now live in Australia,my mum is still alive,she is 88
your neighbour must be rita lowe,as the lowes lived oppisite to there,i used to remember it, as it did smell quite bad,as people used it for a toilet,LOL,i lived about 5 or 6 houses away.

Yea Rita lives next door to me, we have plenty chats about the old 25 row/Bryn road/ Nicol road etc. She's the same as the rest of us....would go back tomorrow {{{sigh}}} lol
first and only time I was done for speeding was here in 1982.
Chap in front of me worked for Council, he was not impressed cos the police hid in the shelter with the infamous vascar gun.
It was demolished the following day!
HI Linda,just started to use computer & seen all these great photos of bryn,i used to mate around with one your neighbours,Ian Mckinley & his cousin Harry Yates,i remember one time raiding an orchard behind your house & getting caught[the apples where nt all that good],The last time i saw jeff hilton was about 3 years ago & he was living near to cansfield school.i wil be putting some old walking day photos on soon.
