Taken in Marsh's Court which was off Bradford St, Chapel Lane. I don't know the year but Grandad died 1948 age 84 so probably in the 1920s or thereabouts. pberry used to live in Marsh's Court

It really feels strange seeing your family from all the years ago. I was only saying the other day that I remember our Elizabeth lifting me up to see Granddad in his coffin, I must have been 5. I recall his very white mustache and it scared me.

I understand that memory PB although I wasn't shown my grandmother in her coffin - I distinctly remember being lifted up to look out of the window at a very snowy scene and a big black hearse carrying the coffin. I was only 3 yrs old. Strange the things you remember.

Ian, I remember them all even though I was only 13 when we moved I have a good memory for all the folks and know most of them who lived there when I did.

Yes,Anne. He was my Dad. His Mother died when he was about 13 years of age. His Auntie Maggie, ( my grandads sister) brought him up. And she did a great job of it. I have fond memories of visiting Chapel Lane every Sunday when I was a kid in the early 1960's.Sadly, my dad passed away far too young.
Did you know him?

Hi Anne, Would Marsh’s Court and Marsh’s Buildings be one and the same? Some of my ancestors lived in Marsh’s Buildings and I’m trying to find out where they would be. The names of my ancestors were Middlehurst, Fillingham and Birtle.
Thanks.

Hello Anne, and greetings from Toronto Canada! I believe we are 3rd cousins through William & Mary Halliwell. William is a brother to my paternal great-grandfather Walter Halliwell. I continue to find many relatives in Wigan and the surrounding area, and I love it. Cheers!

Hi June, I don't know if this is the same William and Mary Halliwell, all I can tell you is info from family Bible he was born 29/11/1863 at 17,kays houses Ince he died age 84 28/12/1948 Mary was born 6,kays houses Ince married3/4/1887 at Ince parish died age 86 17/10/1955. I have never heard of a Walter but I may be wrong. There are lots of William and Mary Halliwell in Ince if you look back. Good to speak to you. Anne

Hi Anne, you're absolutely right. There are MANY William & Mary Halliwells! Is your Mary's maiden name Burrows? And If it's not too much trouble do you know if William's parents were Thomas & Mary Halliwell? Mary's maiden name being Houghton. I could very well be barking up the wrong tree and it wouldn't be the first time. The majority of my Halliwells were from Scholes but I've certainly found them in Ince & Pemberton as well. My great-grandfather Walter Halliwell married Margaret Ann Gregory. Gregory is also quite prolific in the area! Cheers, Jane

As I said previously great grandads father was named William not John. The one you have is a different person there are many William Halliwell.
