Taken in Eccles Road, Kitt Green in 1948 I think this could be the first time I had an ice cream. The vendor is Winstanley's of Orrel.
My cousin Doris is looking after me. She lives in the house next to the end one in the terrace behind. Kitt Green Road is where the large van is parked.

How do they keep the ice cream from melting?

Garry
I think the ice cream was in tubs surrounded by lots of ice, when the ice melted they'd have to go and get some more

Some also used Dry Ice, frozen Carbon Dioxide, to keep the ice cream frozen, it's the same stuff they use on stage and TV to give the effect that water is steaming hot when it is the dry ice evaporating.

You are definitely more interested in the ice cream than the poor horse! Just how I remember the ice- cream man. He used to ring a bell when he was about - no fog horn blaring out music then. Lovely photo David. I think you could do a good job painting this!!!***

David/ Anyone, don,t suppose you have a picture looking out beyond the van? I know there was the brickworks but was the rest farmland?
