I remember Marshall's shop as a kid was not open very often. To much competition from Battles/Maggs and Ivy's on the corner of Leeds st

Hi Phil i remember the competition being Parky Boyle.first shop in Withington Lane and Alan Lathom on the corner of Leeds St. Always remember sitting outside of Marshalls on a Thursday waiting for the Brooke Bond van to cadge some tea card.Battles had the chip Shop then

Harry Marshall who owned the shop lived in the detached bungalow in Withington Lane the one facing Ash Lane.his brother owned the farm facing the saw mill across the canal

Cindy I was born in Leeds st in 1960 moved to Albion Drive when the old houses got pulled down.I moved to Australia in 1981 and been here ever since.

Jack when I was growing up it was Bessie who who had the chippy Battles was a about 5 doors down from the chippy

Hi Phil Bessie did have the chippy but only after battle's stopped doing chips and turned it into a sweets cigs crisp
and pop shop. your to young to remember the song we use to sing as kids Paddy Battle sell fish threeapunce a dish it went on and on

There was Mcindles Chippy @47 Liverpool st.Bob Telfords,corner of Leeds st @ a toffee shop at other end corner of Albion st, Knowles fruit shop corner of Coils entry withington Lane,also a shop on canal bank, liverpool st opposite side of road to the Kirkless.

Jimmy worked for Wigan Corporation and Peggy had her old mother, my Great Auntie Maggie,living with them .I think it was at No.6, nearer to the New Springs Bridge.I think my Great Auntie Jinny Rutter and her husband Matt lived nearby.
