Christine, where is Frith St in Wigan. Cheers
Roughly opposite to Halfords at Newtown when the road was a single carriageway.
It is demolished now Garry. It is roughly in the area of Soho St. which is near Asda.
Frith st is now the entrance road to B&Q, This photo was taken looking from Frith st across Wallgate, with Adams Viaduct in the background.
the railings in the top background are the railway bridge to wigan wallgate ,under which the southway ?runs today.
would that be browns butchers in the back ground if i remember right it had sawdust on the floor, can anyone name the street down the side of butchers ?
The street at the other side of Wallgate is Bywater st Viv.

Christine , I think we are related, my mother was Betty shields, she was your dads cousin. We must have the same great grandparents.
Hi Dotty, the photograph is of my friend Kathleen Brown (nee Perkins) and her mum. I will pass your message on to her, and let you know what she has to say.
Hi again Dotty, yes, Kath says you are correct.
Was the shop known as jack butchers if so I used to live at the other end of the terrace at 293 Wallgate 2nd house before the bridge. Does anyone have any photo's of this terrace.
