The way we were! This must be around 1970, the old shops on the left at the bottom of Standishgate have been demolished but rebuilding has not started, (where Poundworld and Iceland are now.) The old Electric Showroom, soon to be demolished, is just visible

anyother day than Sunday them railings would be full of folk leaning and watching the crowds go by

You had to have a season ticket to lean on those railings..

In the old days, before motor vehicles, cowboys used to tie their horses to those rails before going for a session in the saloon (The Ship).

The Electricity Showrooms was a fine solid looking building with character, what a great shame it was demolished.

Great memories, but from what i remember you had to be able to spit to lean on the railing, the only qualification necessary.

Those railings had some stick with dole men waiting for the pubs to open.
