On the left, view of Birkett Street from the top. On the right same houses but taken from the bottom of the street, these houses no longer exist, nor I think, do the circumstances where people left their front doors open, as here, and allowed their dogs to roam freely.

I share your views completely Josie, when I walk around this area, those are the very thoughts that go through my mind. It's quite hard to "see" how it was and, at the same time, disappointing because I'd like to will these places back again - pure sentimentality I know. It can't happen but the feeling is still present of how it used to be, however, life moves on and we must live in the present.

we lived at No.10 Birkett Street in the mid 1970's.

The photograph of the man going up Birkett Street may possibly be in the late 1970s, as the lamp post has had its light changed to an orange strip from the old round white light.
