Yes, it is Byrom street
that's Burt Melling and his wife (drivers side.
Chances are I know the 3 girls in the background but alas they aren't clear enough.
Wonderful memory

Where are your pics, John.

Comment by: Anthony Unsworth on 12th June 2012 at 10:04

Well said ken.

And a big thank you to Keith,
I didn't think I would ever see Byrom street again.
these pictures that Keith has posted have made me very happy
coupled with a yearning for those sweet golden days of my childhood.
I lived further up the street at number 61.
Some of the people I remember from the street along with Burt and Doris include David Ryder, Sylvia, Irene and Dick Nichols, Peter oaks, Margaret Peters, Linda Hartely, Barbara Melling, Tom Hagan and many more.
Once again thanks Keith :)

I lived two doors away from John and Anthony Unsworth at 57. An elderly couple lived at 63 a lady called Harriet. I remember Bert Melling from the photos. John, Anthony and I always used to play together usually on the field at the back of Chadwick Street that backed onto the Dog Track. We used to have the Poolstock bonfire there. I also remember going on a raiding party up Corporation Street to get the wood from another bonfire for ours. John and Anthony might remember me diving and crashing through their front window while they were watching telly after I'd run away from Oakes dog who lived opposite and who came at me. Happy times.

This was a 1967 Vauxhall Viva SL90 and it was white. I owned the car in the early 70's. I had it for about 18 months and during that time I sprayed it blue with a black leather type roof. I can't believe I am seeing it again after all this time.

Hi Dave - Good to hear from you. I remember you coming through the window like Batman. I also remember that dog! You should have mentioned also that your Dad came and fitted in a new window the same day. They were good and happy days and in their passing we have all lost something. That said I hope you read this and reply. I am speaking for Anthony as well when I wish you and all the other Poolstockers happiness and contentment.

My family history shows my maternal line (Ratcliffe's) lived on Byrom Street from the 1881 census to the 1911 (and probably later) at various different houses, id like to think they were neighbours!

Anthony Unsworth. Long shot this, really...but did you live in Byrom Street around 1968-69? If so, are you the same Anthony who used to have a banjo? Somehow this sticks in my memory.
