My Dad, Geoff Buckley age about 10 playing 'speedway' on his pushbike around 1949/50 on what became the Latics car park. Second Avenue, a short street off Springfield Road, behind him. A new housing estate occupies the immediate foreground now.
Great photo! I lived the first few years of my life at 6 Second Avenue (third house from the left), 1943 to about 1948. We then moved up-market to the corner of First Avenue and Springfield Road! This spare land was known as "The Bottom" (of the street), and, as well as riding our bikes on it, we also played cricket and soccer. More recent pictures show cars parked in the street; we didn't have cars in those days. The Bottom no longer exists: it is now a housing development.
