This is a photograph of Woodhouse Lane, taken in the late 1950's from our house, 306A.
The 'dirt rook' was a wonderful play area for us children.

Remember it well. Ball St was still there, behind the Woodhouse Pub. The Pre-fabs had been demolished to the right of the pic, before the new houses & shops were built. Anybody remember when the road was cobbled from Springfield to Martland Mill?

That stone wall has seem some changes, formerly the boundary to Douglas Bank pit and still there today.

Hi Tony, sadly no. However if you look on the photos for Wigan Speedway, I have put two photographs of me getting autographs from two of the Speedway riders on the Woodhouse Lane Track in the early 50's.

Great picture!! Never seen old pics of Woodhouse Lane so far down - Beech Hill Lane going off to the right - taken from the front of the old Farm house which is still there...

Yes, the old farmhouse garden was always a beautiful sight, people used to come especially just to look at it. Also I'd forgotten how much space there was for us to play in, there seeemed to be grass everywhere! Hi Marlene I am sure you remember walking up this road to meet me at our house, then on to St.Andrew's Church on Sundays.

Hi Keith, yes she was Sandra Holding. My older sister Sheelagh Walford was nearer to her age. I played with her sister Jean. Other kids around there were, Angela and Joseph Leach, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Jenks and Brian Moss.

Great photo Christine. Jean Holding died a couple of years ago and her sister Sandra now l ives in Golbourne. I lived at 320a for 70 odd years and I remember The cobbles in Woodhouse Lane.

Hi Jean, I am so sorry to hear about Jean. They were great days, we children never seemed to spend much time indoors.
