Sorry i can't count should read five cousins,
Aw..God luv um'.
How lovely. I can just see them running in for a jam-butty like we used to!
True Irene..I can't see them going home and asking for a sandwich can you?...in fact I can't see so many kids having ketchup, treacle, condensed milk, sugar or the other butty with that lardy like thing we had,I've forgotten what it was called.. can you.
i also lived in swan terrace i remember everyone of them
Dripping, Maureen, and I often had jam, treacle or lemon curd, (which my Mam called Lemon Cheese), on butties, and also "Pobs", which was bread broken up in hot milk, sprinkled with butter and sugar, or Savoury Pobs, which was Oxo with bread broken in it. A great favourite was a hard-boiled egg chopped up in a cup with butter, salt and pepper. I still have a drink of Oxo and egg-chopped-up-in-a-cup to this day, and very nice they are too! And despite making a modern Health-Visitor's hair curl, none of the above.....dripping butties included.....ever did us any harm.
Thanks Irene, that was it,and yes pobs,I even gave it to my own when they were babes..and just the mention of chopped up egg in a cup with salt and pepper and of course a dot of butter with a cup of oxo made my mouth water, more than likely be scorned by the health dieticians of today..I'm quite a bit older than you(not telling though)and none of the food we had as children has done me any harm..mind you there were no additives in your food was there? everything was fresh..nice talking with you Irene.
I'm sure Kath Moore and Terry Mulligan was in my class at St. Pats.
Ahh, I love this photo and Irene, you've just reminded me of the wonderful chopped up egg we used to have - real comfort food!! Thanks!!
Lovely picture but looks earlier than 1954
I know it may look 1854,but it definately 1954 Margaret.
