How lovely. I can just see them running in for a jam-butty like we used to!

True Irene..I can't see them going home and asking for a sandwich can you?...in fact I can't see so many kids having ketchup, treacle, condensed milk, sugar or the other butty with that lardy like thing we had,I've forgotten what it was called.. can you.

Dripping, Maureen, and I often had jam, treacle or lemon curd, (which my Mam called Lemon Cheese), on butties, and also "Pobs", which was bread broken up in hot milk, sprinkled with butter and sugar, or Savoury Pobs, which was Oxo with bread broken in it. A great favourite was a hard-boiled egg chopped up in a cup with butter, salt and pepper. I still have a drink of Oxo and egg-chopped-up-in-a-cup to this day, and very nice they are too! And despite making a modern Health-Visitor's hair curl, none of the above.....dripping butties included.....ever did us any harm.

Thanks Irene, that was it,and yes pobs,I even gave it to my own when they were babes..and just the mention of chopped up egg in a cup with salt and pepper and of course a dot of butter with a cup of oxo made my mouth water, more than likely be scorned by the health dieticians of today..I'm quite a bit older than you(not telling though)and none of the food we had as children has done me any harm..mind you there were no additives in your food was there? everything was fresh..nice talking with you Irene.

Grew up in Wigan and am getting sentimental in my old age. Love looking at the old photographs. Terry Mulligan was in my class at St Patrick's. Thanks for sharing the pic!
