Taken at Parsons Walk at the junction with Mesnes Park Terrace, on the way from Throstlenest Avenue to the Salvation Army Hall in Hope Street, about 1955.

This is the funeral of Mrs Agnes Grant who died aged 83 in August 1956.There was a service outside her house, 61 Throstlenest Avenue, and then the funeral procession walked up Parsons Walk, the hearse being escorted by the Salvation Army Band, and lady members of the Songsters.Mrs Grant was a long serving and well-loved member of the Salvation Army in Wigan.Members of the Band are as follows,carrying a flag, right hand side Harry Heyes, Band Librarian.In front of the band, Major and Mrs Wood, Commanding Officers Wigan.

Me Trombone, you can just see my feet, Harold Booth, Double Bass, Kevin Foster Double Bass. Second Row Peter Brown, Baritone,Tom Penk Euphonium, Sam Brown Tenor Horn, Bernard Hunt(looking left) Tenor Horn.
Back Row, Bandmaster Bram Humphreys, my Dad, cornet.All members of the band and sonsters had (unpaid ) time off work to attend the funeral. AFter the service at the salvation Army Hall in Hope street, Mrs Grant was taken for burial at the Wigan Cemetery in Lower Ince.
