What a photo. Some of those kids look familiar. I was eight years old in 1954 and living on Helvellyn Rd and going to St John's, Pem. One girl looks familiar but I'm not sure.
Anyone else know?

The playing fields in Little Lane were opened a few years after this picture was taken, dontated by Billy Butlin. They were once used by Wigan Rugby in !958 or 59 to prepare for the cup final. It was claimed the turf was similar to Wembley the other year they used KGVV school fields in Southport. I speny my childhood in Pemberton and do not recognise this site it does not look like the play area in Bankes Avenue but I have a faint idea that there were swings, slide and a roundabout the "Gossips" close to Gaskells bakery. That was very close to Queen Street. I must know some in the picture but scary I cannot name them.

I think this could have been the park next to Enfield street labour club. The roundabout looks like the one iremember there as a child.
