The old broadsheet Wigan Observer about to be printed at Rowbottom Square, in 1965. The press was built in Liverpool in 1869, and first used by the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo. In 1884,the machine was bought by the founder of the Wigan Observer, Thomas Wall and sons LTD, and went on to print the paper until 1966. It is estimated that it churned out well over 100 million copies of newspapers in 82 years of operation. The once well oiled Victory-Kidder machine, now rest and shows off her beautiful engineered looks at the London Science Museum for all to see.
