This is on River Way near to Water Heyes. I think this was during the remodelling of the town centre roads as the no.12 used to go a different way out of town but when some roads were made 'one way' the bus routes were diverted accordingly.
Wigan Corporation had 32 rear engined dual door Leyland Atlantean double decker buses bodied by Northern Counties. The first one in 1968 was 166 FJP566G, followed by nine more in 1969, 157-165 GJP2-10G. The next twelve in 1971 were bigger, 92-97, 151-156 KJP20-31J, and ten more in 1972, 1-10 NEK1-10K. All passed to Greater Manchester Transport and repainted orange and white from 1974, renumbered 3300-3321, 3330-3339.
My route to school! My mum always said I never made it to the stop on time at Britannia Bridge so the drivers either waited or stopped especially for me going up the hill towards Britannia Bridge and happy Harry’s shop! Ah the memories!
