The Ford company during the war were turning out Military vehicles from, what I believe was formerly, a Wigan Corporation Bus Depot, and I believe reverted back to this after the War.
It was situated off Pottery Road and may still be there as far as I know, sandwiched between Melverley Street and Pottery Terrace. I do have a very slight memory of "visiting" him here one lunchtime when my mother delivered a very welcome lunch, I would have been about 3 at the time.
My father worked here for a while before his call up for the Forces, he's in the middle of the back row with a smudgy nose just to prove he was working I suppose! I'm afraid I can't provide any more names nor can my father (Jack Bowen) who is now 93 years old, except to say that the chap dressed in the overalls on the front row was a "character".
