L19 main gate road

this was L19 main gate roadway prior to the face sending coal Taken in 1980 while the pit was on holiday. I took the camera down with me and got a few shots off. There never was any problem as the camera had no electrical parts. The illumination was by caplamp and I used the open shutter technique, giving it about 10 secs.

Great pictures Fred. Tha could do with explaining maingate, tailgate and roadway.

Main Gate road is where the coal is sent out to the pit. Tailgate is the return roadway. The stream of fresh air goes via the main gate and exits along the return. Hope that thos explains it for you
