My mother Alice Pennington is third on the left on the back row, with my aunt, Mary Adamson on her own, who was baths attendant.

I worked on the pit brow with these ladies, in 1949-50, together with Billy Macfarlane, he played for Leigh R L club at the time. Billy used to plague the lives out of them. One day they chased him all over the screens but they never caught him. He used to scare me to death, the antics he used to get up to. The girls worked very hard.in a harse environment, but they were always happy and cheerful,a great bunch of ladies. In winter it was extremely cold. I think this is why they all had lovely complextions
