Sorry, but wheres Frank King on the photo?
Hey David,
The old gentleman is behind the stall between the rolls of bacon and 'Quality' sign. He sold nothing but quality meats.
Was he known as the invisible man.
The stall was like that when i started work in the Marketin 1957. Frank was an Ex Marine, he did'ny stand any messing around, but he was a nice old chap.As was his so Lawrence
My dad worked for Frank King around the early 50's when I was small. I often used to go and visit this stall with my mum and Mr King always gave me 3p which was a lot then
I remember the Bulls head hanging in the market hall was it at Kings or Greens butchers, I was terrified of it but I was only little and it was in the 50's. but I always loved the rest.
I remember the bulls head...I think it was Green's. It was awsome.
Sue, what was your dad's name? I may remember him.
Frank and lawrence used to have a drink in Colin Cooks.
You don't see that quantity of meat hanging in butchers shops nowadays, it just goes to show how much fresh food we ate. Our mothers used to shop daily for our food.
To Fed Mason, There was two heads not one on top of Greens stalls. Greens took them down because they were full of muck.
To Fred Mason, It appears you do not know much about Wigan town, You did not know where Walshes slaughterhouse was, you say there was only one cow head over Greens butchers when there was two,you said Jerry Burgess was the best butcher in Wigan market, something else you do not seem to understand other butchers in market loads better than him ,he was only average you can ask any butcher who worked in market at this time, what was your claim to fame i do not remember you being recognised as a good butcher, I knew all the butchers in Wigan market at this time and sadly poor Jerry was allways down the bottom of list of good butchers alongside yourself.

Did the family anything to do with Kings (butchers) of Broadway in Preston
