Item #: 30788
to Wigan Corporation Transport in September 1953
Its bodywork was by Northern Counties of Wigan.
The bus has been fully restored and is seen quite often at Transport Rallies.
Always used on the Shevington via Orrell Post and Gathurst route - for obvious reasons.
A fine specimen, and with a badge that would grace any small collection. But what does the 101 tell, Raymond. Thanks.
Philip, The 101 is the fleet number, Ray.
Masterful Ray. Thanks.
Wigan Corporation single deckers were in the minority and had to be used on routes that went under low bridges such as at Gathurst, and Mill Lane, Appley Bridge. There were nine Northern Counties bodied Leyland Royal Tigers new in 1952/3/5, JP9061-9064, AEK513-516, BJP364, followed by two Tiger Cubs, DEK534-535 in 1957, and another JJP501 in 1961 bodied by Massey. Two Massey bodied Leyland Panther Cubs in 1967, DJP468E and EEK1F, and 12 Northern Counties bodied Panthers in 1970, HJP950-961H.
JJP501 had the most fantastic interior coachwork. A beautiful addition to a great fleet at the time.
