Ah, the old loading bay into the mixing room. I remember it well.

Ahh, And a view of the boiler house, which housed the Lancashire boilers!

the mixing room was where they unloaded bales of cotton off a wagon with the aid of a hand worked crane. the bales were then fed into threshing machines and sent down to the bottom room which was known as the blowing room to make laps to feed the card room machines from there they went to different floors in the factory spinning rooms, winding room, doubling room, until it was the finished product bobbins of fine wool. if my memory serves me correctly the man driving the bale wagon was named workman hope this has helped a little I have fond memories of working there in the early sixties. it was hard graft but never a dull moment.

me too john. the cards I worked on my old workmate tommy tarpey was the stripper and grinder I think there were 42 card machines I had to feed with laps all day long a busy job but I [ lapped it up ] happy days.
