A pic of Susan Mcgann as coal queen at Parkside

Fred: What year did Susan work on the pit brow, I must admit I like her boiler suit.

Comment by: RON HUNT on 27th March 2018 at 17:24

Is her name not Yvonne?

Comment by: Mr K on 27th March 2018 at 18:28

No Ron, her names not McCann either.

Comment by: Elizabeth on 27th March 2018 at 18:57

It looks a lot like Yvonne McCann.

Comment by: DTease on 27th March 2018 at 20:14

I don't think John G is any too bothered what her name is.

Comment by: DTease on 27th March 2018 at 20:18

That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet

A nice clear photo of a pretty girl, Fred. Thanks.
And talk of Queens, Roses, and Fragrance encourage me to mention my very recent acquisition, from Pimbo.
It's a yellow, scented Hybrid Tea rose called King's Ransom. I don't fancy planting it out just yet as the weather remains a bit too dreary for my liking, but if John could fix me up with a boiler suit, and DTease continued to enchant me with his well-strung harp, then my situation could change very dramatically.

i think her name is yvonne mccan & i think she was mine host at the brickmakers arms at 1 time.

Comment by: Mick on 28th March 2018 at 07:41

Definitely Yvonne McCann.
I remember her from when she lived with her parents Jimmy and Annie, in Queen St.
She was active on the local beauty contest circuit in the 1970s.
She had the Bricklayer's in Hallgate in the early 1990s, and I think she also had the Black Diamond at Ince, at some stage.

Philip: If I got you the same boiler suit as Susan/ Yvonne/ or Annie come lately who ever the lady is! and you gave Wigan World a photo, I think your situation is guaranteed to change dramatically over night.

Comment by: Julie on 28th March 2018 at 14:10

That's Yvonne Maccann. She used to come in the hair salon where I worked.

Comment by: Philip Gormley. on 28th March 2018 at 15:02

John G. You're quite right, sir: The said fabric would hardly launch fine words in my direction. In fact, the only launching that I can envisage would be the onset of my flight into perpetual disgrace. Hope you're keeping well.

Yon Philip Gormley's on the ball, remarking about the pretty girls on both these photos.....what about me and Veronica, Philip? We were young once, tha' knows! xx

Comment by: DTease on 28th March 2018 at 19:11

Irene, I have a Boilersuit you can borrow. It's been hanging in my garage since I retired six years ago but there's still some life left in them, in fact the last time I poked them with a stick there seemed to be an awful lot of life left in them! However, a good scrub down with a Yard Brush and a bucket of Dettol should make them habitable again and, what's more I believe that Veronica is still in possession of her Bottle Green Bloomers.
What a picture!!!
Wadya say girls?

Comment by: Philip Gormley. on 28th March 2018 at 20:13

Irene/Veronica. Be ye not afraid of Father Time, girls.
Our ongoing exchanges through the medium of Wigan World give me firm belief that I jangle with a 'dazzler' and, also, with a 'thinking man's pin-up'; comely both of ye.

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th March 2018 at 21:33

DTease, both Veronica and I would look very fetching in a boiler-suit! Philip, we don't let Father Time bother us.....we would rather have lines through laughing than NO lines through NOT laughing, and we are always guaranteed a laugh with you two gentlemen! We may not look like the lovely lady in the photo, but she probably doesn't look like that now either.....she will have grown old with US! (Well, a young forty, as Marina in Last of the Summer Wine would say!). Isn't it nice to have a bit of fun? xx.

Comment by: Veronica on 28th March 2018 at 21:56

I think I would rather have me royal blue hot pants and me shocking pink blouse Dtease- they may be in the attic with the bottle green shorts! I bet Irene could wear her French Resistance outfit - much nicer than a boiler suit!
