These pits were opened by Crompton and Shawcross in about 1890.The names Edith and Mabel were the two daughters of either Crompton or Shawcross, don't know which one.
They are in the wooded area behind Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
Hindley Hall was a Pearson and Knowles pit.
