I remember Pennington who had a haulage company
When I called around 1969 he had a driver called Charlie
Would I be right in saying the unit is an atki?
Thats a stranged garage with no roof on. The wagon looks like Atkinson unit. I don't think it's 1982, its got L reg on the plate could be 1973. I don't know these men another good un Eddie.
Yes Eddie that is the Frank, but he started working for Dick in 1972 when he lived in Poolstock
At he time Penningtons was based behind Ashton Police station, in a small yard with a bungalow in.
Cheers Jimmy, I never realised he'd worked at Pennintons twice, or that he'd lived in Poolstock. He lived in Garswood all the time I knew him. He died about 15 years ago unfortunately.
Bet those spanners are AF.
Nice photo Eddie.
Whitworth more like Colin.
I think whitworth are screw threads, I remember a friend saying years ago who knew Walt Roby, you have to have funny spanners to work on Atkinson wagons, was that right Eddie?
When Colin said A/F, what he meant was that it would be unlikely that any metric scanners would have been required to work on that wagon. When I said Whitworth, I was merely being facetious, alluding to the age of the wagon and the fact that Whitworth spanners are largely, although not entirely obsolete nowadays. You're quite right in saying that Whitworth was a standard thread. There was also a sniper rifle called a Whitworth which was designed by the same man.
Gary, Eddie's spot on. The box of spanners on the floor would hardly be metric for a 1972-3 British HGV. It was only said with tongue-in-cheek.
Get a grip man.
Garry, don't try to estimate when a photo was taken by the reg of one of Pennington's wagons.
He never bought anything new, he was a good podger up by all accounts.
Garry, you do not know one end of a Whitworth spanner from an A/F spanner. Where did you serve you time as an electrician or as you say " top lecky in Ince"?People on here who are qualified in their job treat you as a joke.Give it up Garry!
Frank lived with my sister up to his death in School Lane Garswood. His family came from Weaverham Cheshire
No pw, I said top spark in Ince. Iam what you might call a good "all-rounder" I did tackle any job when I was younger.I was afraid of nowt. What I meant about the year of the truck was, it must be 1972, because these types of trucks didn't last 10 years where it states 1982. These were just wood and fibre glass cabs, if you got 7 years out of Atky you were lucky. Infact cars and vans in those days didn't last long they were just rust buckets.
PeterP, I knew your sister Barbara. I also knew your brother Gerry, he worked as a machine driver for Wm & C. Gaskell. He was a really nice bloke and I was saddened to hear of his death last year. I remember when your family lived in the old house at the corner of Garswood old rd. The house was demolished sometime in the 60's. You would only have been a young lad at the time. Frank once told me that his family had some farmland on Frodsham marshes, I don't know if you know anything about that or not. Cheers. Eddie.
GENTLEMEN, GARRY IS A JACK OF ONE OR TWO TRADES AND A MASTER OF NONE. WITHOUT KNOWING ME PERSONALLY HE MADE SOME DISRESPECTFUL REMARKS ABOUT ME ON P-A-D 30TH OCTOBER, EDDIE, COLIN, JIMMY, Pw AND ANYONE ELSE, VISIT THAT PHOTO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO READ MY ANSWER. Pw you have hit the nail on the head with your comment. This is the last time i shall get involved with anything he says.
First of all jonno look what you said about be on photo a day 30-10-15, if you give it out you must be prepared to take it back. Its all about opinion, just because you don't agree with my comments, it dosen't mean your right.
Sorry to hear Frank has died, when I knew him he lived at Poolstock, I don't know if he was married, but he had a teenage daughter who he sometimes brought to work.
Garrys right to be fair!!
Nothing wrong with Google to find things out, most people on here use it. Jonno...You have been a little harsh with Garry you know, its not one way traffic.
