Would that be Hindley Green, Keith?
Hi, Garry, yes it is the Hindley Green site,W.T.C. Ltd. manufactured on this site from 1982-2002
Keith. Didn't they manufacture asbestos products, such as conveyor belts, etc. My schoolmate worked there, named Ronnie Williams.
Hi,Albert, Asbestos items were manufactured on this site,Turner Brothers sold off part of its manufacturing facility which was purchased by the W.T.C.Co. to manufacture Welding & Plasma cutting Equipment & To do sub-contract work for the mining, medical & defence Fields.
That's a funny canteen
Hello Kieth brings back some happy memories worked there 84=88
I believe that some of the machinery to make conveyor belts at Turners was transferred to a company in Hull, Fenner.

I worked at Turners in the south block at first doing hand layup on fibreglass, mostly milk van tops, then went on to making typewriter cases and trays, later I transferred to the north block where I was on the big presses doing curing conveyer belts for the mines here and Australia, I never saw any asbestos being manufactured, that's not to say it wasn't used there, its just that in the 2 years I was there I didn't see any
I worked for J.W.Roberts on the Turners sight from 1966-1970. Asbestos was spun and woven into a fabric and impregnated with a resin. I also played in their rugby union team on a pitch that closely resembled a swamp after heavy rain. At lunchtime I enjoyed a quick game of lawn bowls alongside the canteen.
I worked at turner bros 61 64 also played rugby and helped lay the pitch out I am suffering from mesothelioma 50 years later

I worked at Turners from 1974 for 28years and I never experienced any signs of asbestos, I'm not saying it wasn't there because it must have been at some time that was how the plant started but I remember when I started it was called TBA Industrial Products Ltd. then went on to be TBA Belting and is now Contitech UK Ltd.
Worked there in despatch office from 1974 to 1991.
