Taken from "Bygone Wigan" film (U Tube)- which shows amongst other things - Bickershaw Colliery and so I'm assuming these pit brow lasses are working there.
It was from the 1920's and I was surprised to see various bits of coal, of different sizes, flying through the air as they were sorted and some of the coal lumps were quite large which again the women were man-handling.

Their working dress never changed, even into the fifties. They were very hard working, dignified ladies.
