1963/4 Me on railway track pedestrian crossing; could this be Whitley, as the other one I think was a bridge from Walter Scott Ave..

That's Whitley all right, with Beech Hill ROF, later Tupperware behind. A footpath on the far side led to Spencer Road West. Rylands Sidings signal box was just to the left, which had 30 levers in a L&NWR frame. It survived as a block post umtil the 1972 electrification.

Thanks Nev, that brings me a step closer to finding which route we took. I had visited Rylands box about two years prior to this, Harry Tomlinson was the signal man; the box was the next one north after Wigan No.2. I hadn't seen this area photo up till now, the day I took it was when I went into a time warp, I didn't recognise the area from the picture, but thanks to you this part has slot back into the memory bank.
