Shunting at rear of Wigan No.2 1961 looking west. The factory is in between the houses on Great George Street and the railway lines from Wigan Northwest station.

It was a water tower.

The tower could have been a fan hole to collect dust fibres from the machine shop/s; by the design of the roofs, it was probably weaving or knitting

Is this engine a Stanier or Fairburn?

The mill has a typical north-light roof construction which suggests this is a weaving mill. The water tower would have supplied the sprinkler system and hose reels.

its a stanier, built aug 1936 at nbl glasgow,long time patricroft loco withdrawn late 1963.cut up at looms of spondon 12 months later
