Whelley Jct must have been a great place to work back then,perched high on top the embankment with a fine view of the Douglas Valley below.
Even in bad weather it must have been a cosy place to be with the fire roaring away,the rain beating down on the windows & the wind howling through the telegraph wires outside.
Did Whelley Jct Signal Box have a night shift??,or did the place switch out overnight?

Whelley had a night shift, if I remember rightly the last shift was saturday night at 22:00 and next one was monday at 06:00, the pic. of me at the desk, if you look at the clock on the wall, it says 7:20, but it's a 12 hour clock. Balshaw Lane closed and opened at those times
