I found this in a box of my mother's photo's. It is described on the back as Basket Works 1949.

My mother, Margaret Lee nee Ainscough is on the far right in the head scarf, she would have been about 26 when this was taken. Any one recognise the other people in the photo?

There was a basket works at Newtown just off the bottom of Douglas St next to the jam works, I used to live across the road from The bird I'th Hand as a child and remember the basket works being on fire in about the early 60's

I worked for the basket works and took the bases glue etc, and worked from home. I used to do this when my daughter was in bed. She was born 1969. Dont know when It finally closed.

I seem to remember my mum talking about a Nellie Bradshaw.
They must have been there together. Mum lived on Ellis Street, Whelley. She had sisters Ellen (Nellie) and Edna.

my dad Gordon Meadows worked at basket works until his death in 1964 he was only 42. I am not sure what years he worked there? Does anyone remember him?

Yes it is the basket works, I lived at the top of Caroline street, and played just inside, there was baskets and chairs hung up...I went to st Thomas school, and there was a bloke who, lived round the corner in a pub near the bridge, but can't remember his name...the school canteen was down the road passed st James school near the canal...

I have more info, I think that the second lady on the left is Eva Hampson, that is her married name. She used to work in the Buttery bakers on Wallgate. Lived in Pemberton and Kitt Green. I can very vaguely remember going to the Basket Works when I was a tot in the 1960s with my mum.
